The notion of "bionics" relates to R&D activities that use principles from biology and are inspired by nature. Here we understand bionics in a broad scope, ranging from energy efficiency, pharmaceuticals, design and architecture, to traffic, stability of materials, organizational principles and earthquake protection.
This project aims to identify the potential for Austrian R&D in the field of bionics. It will identify the companies and research groups (at universities and other research institutions) that are working in this area, including analysis of their strengths, and ways that these could be built upon. In addition we will provide an overview of technology policies used internationally for bionics, particularly in selected countries like Germany and other EU member states. This includes details on how other countries make this field more visible and ways it can be stimulated.
