Unmanned platforms are reusable units that can perform missions – autonomous or remote-controlled – airborne, afloat or ashore. Among other benefits they offer the possibility for armed forces to withdraw from the exposure to enemy fire and at the same time identify and – as the case may be – combat the adversary. World-wide there are intense RD&D activities to improve the suitability of such systems for operational application.
The project will give an overview of the current state and perspectives of relevant key technologies and components. An innovation-, security- and arms control pol-icy placement of the topic will be provided also in consideration of dual-use aspects and terrorist use scenarios. National and multinational options for political action will be discussed.
