You can watch TV with your mobile phone, make a telephone call with your computer and surf the Internet via the cable TV network. The advancing media convergence confronts legislators and regulators of the media and the telecommunications sector with the challenge of keeping pace with the rapid appearance of new equipment and applications.
Existing legislation and regulation was established at a time when the advent of new convergent devices, networks and services could not be foreseen.
This raises the question to what extent the existing laws, instruments and procedures are still appropriate and can be used without contradiction. This comprises for example youth protection, data protection and consumer protection.
This TAB project aims to identify barriers and drivers of convergence development and to analyze the specific challenges which arise for regulation and the legal framework.
