Hearing on xeno transplantations

– the transferal of organs and tissue from animals to human beings

On February 23, 2000, the Board arranged an internal hearing that took place in the Common Hall at Christiansborg Palace, on behalf of the Parliament’s Research Commission and Health Committee, which was a kind of committee-seminar. The hearing was arranged in cooperation with the Ethical Council and had its source in a note drawn up by BIOSAM – a liaison organ representing the interests of the biotechnology field. The purpose of the hearing was to orient the committee members about the risks of xeno transplantation – including the technical, health-economic, legislative and ethical aspects, and to present international experiences concerning legislation and recommendations in this domain.
